Which letter abbreviates speed?

Hey,

My physics teacher says speed is abbreviated with a "V." However, the textbook says "v." The internet says both, but each time it's a different result.

Which of these is correct? ^^"

thanks in advance

A small v is common for speed.
A large V is customary for volumes, and U or V is also suitable for potential energy.

Note that you have to do it at speed with a vectorial size. Therefore, the v is often printed with an arrow on it or bold.

In formulae, small letters are usually used.

Little v is right. Large V is usually the volume.

“correct” is always the symbol that is associated with the physical size in the context of a task or publication, for example “an auto moves with the speed v …”

There are no overcrowding symbols except in the head of teachers who always use the same symbols and are too lazy for the context description.

v or a closer name m/s, km/h, …

Small v is correct

It is a small v. The big V is the voltage.

Formula characters and characters for a unit have nothing to do with each other.

I know, but forgot the V for the tension in the German is unusual. In English-language texts this is actually found as a formula mark.

No. V is the short form for volts, the INHEIT of the electrical voltage. Topic missed.

No, much more recently read in English, where the V is also used as a formula for tension.

@Matermace

Voltage would be “u”

Thank you, I don’t need to googlen.

You can see how little you use the reading. For this purpose, the large U is used for the voltage, the R for resistors and the I for current strengths. Ohmsh’s law.
