If you rub your face with a so-called "aftershave," which usually contains alcohol, you'll feel a strong cooling sensation. What is the reason for this?

The fastest particles escape from the surface of the aftershave. The average velocity of the remaining particles decreases. This is noticeable in a cooling process called evaporative cooling.
