Why don't waves wash crabs away?
I've noticed that crabs don't get washed away despite big waves and head-on collisions with rocks. How do the crabs manage to get such a firm grip?

By having enough legs.
With 8 legs you can get a decent grip and can "cling" even without fingers, toes or claws
On the one hand, they cling tightly and on the other hand, their (crouched) body offers little surface area for attack…
…unlike a person with clammy fingers who can barely hold on, in comparison, they have a huge body, which is made even heavier by dripping wet clothes and offers even more surface area for attack…
They have a body that lets the waves pass by and their feet hold them well too.
