Save external hard drive?
Hi, I bought an external hard drive. I copied everything onto it and then reset my PC. Now I want to access it, but it's incredibly slow. I can see the data after it takes forever to load, but copying it over just doesn't work. Where can I go, or what can I do? It's a hard drive with a power connection and a MIDI USB to USB connection.
the data is very important..
Greetings, luiluig
If the data is important, it should be a professional. The HDD is either unstable due to a head problem or firmware problem.
This type of error is quite often found in WD plates. Depending on what it is, we should be able to solve the problem for EUR 199 or EUR 299.
If you want to make yourself, you can try to clone the plate with Linux. The process must be monitored because otherwise the total loss of the data is possible! Why this is what you see here: https://disk-doctor.eu/blog/index.php?t=was_fit_bei_datenrettung_mit_software
What you shouldn't do is simply search and copy data recovery software to me!

Resetting is always the worst option, better it is to install Windows fresh.
Are the chipset drivers installed?
So I reinstalled Windows and did everything on an external hard drive
Chipset driver for external hard drive?
Right when the disk is connected via USB, the current driver for USB is usually included in the chipset driver.
If it's slow, then copy it and be patient.
Everything else would only worsen the situation.
Only THEN makes analysis steps sense.
Either way, why don't you have any backups? 🤷
that should be the backup
In that case, you would have the originals.
So everything's so wild, right?
Otherwise – Basic rule 1: Switching cable times – is the cheapest and cable breaks would not be unusual now.
the connection between pc and hard drive breaks before even only i was copied over because it is so slow.
Copying is a bad idea! Linux and ddrescue can help. But the problem can be a firmware problem. This is often due to the fact that background processes run endlessly and this causes extremely much load.
In order to fix this, it is necessary to stop and deactivate the relevant background processes.
Therefore, such a process must be monitored – the HDD is getting slower and slower, because the head should do 10 things at the same time and how crazy jumps back and forth. This often ends in the head crash.
Everything is correct – but the further procedure depends much more on whether it is a backup or not.
You could save all the rescue attempts.
