Starting aid for Mini Cooper – experiences?
Good morning everyone,
I have the following problem: I have a 2012 Mini Cooper D with an automatic transmission. The battery is a bit old, but it's always worked.
Now my car has been sitting outside for a few days without me driving it, in temperatures as low as -15 degrees, and I can no longer start it.
We've already tried to get it running again with a jump start, but I don't know if we did everything right because it won't start.
You can hear the ignition click briefly, the radio and lights work, but an orange warning sign appears, which stands for the glow plugs. I had that last year, though, and I only had to wait a few minutes and I was able to start the car again.
Can anyone help me with this case or has experienced something similar before?
I would be delighted to hear your feedback. Thanks in advance!
best regards
Give my previous speaker right. Pay attention to the right starter cable. If it is a diesel you need the cable with the larger average. Have seen that there are two different starting aid cables with thinner cables and thicker cables. Would take that thicker.
the battery is ready; you write yourself:
logically, at least as old as the car, the battery has kept quite long; especially at extreme minus temperatures, the batteries are severely damaged.
Pre-annealing on the diesel is a must. Vehicle is in a passenger position, the diesel can be sulking. It's got to be warm. https://www.sueddeutsche.de/auto/strenger-frost-bunsenbrenner-weg-vom-dieseltank-1.3328467
Hello, thanks for the message. The problem is, I don't know myself and can't replace a battery myself. How do I get the car into a workshop?
best easy to call, they can pick up the vehicle
Starting aid cable + to + and – to -.
If a car is used as a dispenser, you should give some gas to supply both vehicles with sufficient electricity.
Meanwhile, the other attempts can start the vehicle.
So your mini is a diesel (otherwise he wouldn't have a glow plug). At cold temperatures, pre-annealing takes longer. Only when the lamp is extinguished is sufficiently pre-annealed. Multiple preheating can help. And then try to start the engine.
Once this has been done, you can remove the starting aid cables after a short waiting.
If your battery is older, you should think about a new one. Let your glow plugs renew.
At least it's not the fuel. The normal diesel can be used up to about -30°C. Then he starts to flock and clog the lines. At even colder temperatures, there are additives which can be filled manually into the tank before full tanks and which keep the diesel liquid.
Thank you for the message. We will try to start again today. I'm hard to find a suitable place in my mini – because I can't really interpret this from the user manual.
Maybe a stupid question: But how do I really glow? I always put my key in the slot and then press the start button.
just press the start button, there should be a yellow control light that looks like a diving bodice. Wendel, if it fails, then start
Everything that is made of metal is usually in a suitable place. In doubt, the negative pole of the battery is always correct.
That's how stupid the question is. I don't know how modern CARs are. I haven't been driving diesel any longer. It used to be like this: You put the ignition key into the lock, turned to the ignition, the incandescent lamp went on. After it was extinguished, the key was turned either back to start the glowing process again or turned further to start the engine.
I don't know how this is when you have a button to start. In the two-foot there should be a stand in the user manuals. Specifically, a specific pedal is to be pressed in parallel (or explicitly not to press) or the button must be actuated several times but only briefly. Or your key plays a role. But it's all gone.
The battery will be dead. You could bridge longer. Just let the donor car run 10-15 minutes. Then take another start.
In such cases, it is always good to measure the battery briefly with a voltmeter. Should a layman get there too. Everything under 10-11 volts is then really dead or at least very severely damaged. I would definitely replace the battery.
laugh, who already has a voltmeter in his hobby tool box 😉
Yes, this devil's witness 🙂
does the starter even turn? When was the last time the diesel filter changed?
These are the first Brexit effects, they no longer like in the EU, laugh
😂😂 It was good.👍👍👍
