Wireless HDMI, experiences, recommendations?
I was just browsing the internet and found wireless HDMI.
Now I've been thinking about connecting my PlayStation, my Nintendo Switch, and my Samsung soundbar to my Samsung smart TV via wireless HDMI. (The soundbar is connected via HDMI because I like to get sound from both the TV and the soundbar.)
Now my question(s): Does this work with three devices? It should work exactly the same as with three HDMI cables.
Do the switch and the playstation (4) support wireless HDMI?
And can anyone recommend some that aren't (too) expensive but still work well?
No, there is no such thing, or rather, it's more marketing. It looks terrible due to the compression artifacts and low resolution.
Instead, buy three HDMI cables and a KVM switch.
Well, that would have been too good to be true.
In principle, only the soundbar is connected, the other two only when needed.
It was just about the looks.
Really not recommendable at all?
No, not at all. Wi-Fi bandwidth in general is simply too low.
If you look at the bandwidth of an HDMI, for example, you have 42 Gbps with HDMI 2.1. While with a high-end Wi-Fi connection, you'll probably get around 1-2 Gbps, if that.
Plus, there's the encoding and decoding latency, which can be noticeable in shooters.
This reminds me of the transmitters that used to be available for video signals – those things transmitted on 2.4 GHz and practically acted like jammers on the normal Wi-Fi.
It's better if you keep your hands off it.
