How bad is jet lag?
I've been to the east coast of the USA many times, and the jet was still manageable back then.
Does anyone have experience with what it's like on the west coast?
Can you forget the first day there after the flight?
Or does anyone have any tips?
I used to be in Vancouver/Canada (- 9 hours to Germany, just like West Coast USA) and had no problem with the time shift.
After my return the other day from Tokyo (+ 8 hours to Germany, ie – 8 hours on return) also not.
How much you have to fight with jet lag, but is completely different individually.
I've been working in a daily (!) changing day/night shift service for 34 years, so I don't know a jet lag anyway. Neither from West to East nor vice versa.
Others have to fight for two weeks with the one-hour change from summer to winter…
So no one will be able to predict how easy it will be for you.
Keep living like at home. So don't go to bed earlier, even if the day of travel lasts 9 hours longer than a normal day. Then the next day not just get up at 06:00 local time, but can sleep a little longer, so maybe until 08:00 or 09:00, and so it should be good.
Conversely, it's worse, I think, because you're missing the whole night. There it feels only 23:00 in the evening, but on site again 08:00 in the morning. Then it is best to go through the day and do not lie down, but it already hurts like after a night.
I was only in San Francisco once, but I didn't feel the jet lay there any worse than on the east coast.
Never had a jet lag
