Game launcher?

Hey, surely everyone who plays games has experienced this. You download a new game and, lo and behold, it has its own launcher alongside Steam or Epic Games, for example. Why is this done, and how does it actually work? Is it just a website that functions as a program? Or does it work completely differently? I'd be interested to know, and I look forward to your answers 😀

The most obvious reason will be that, for example, Steam will pay 30% of the price on each sale.

If you don't want to do this, you have to offer the game yourself.

In addition, one can prevent keys of the game from being sold after some time for a fraction of the original price.

In most cases, the launcher will simply simplify the updates of the games.

Can be anything, both an HTML page and a local running program. Sometimes this was done because there is also the game without Steam or otherwise. In some online games, the update or login will be regulated.
