Cystitis after sex – Is my boyfriend cheating on me?

Hello, my dears,

I've had the same partner for years. We didn't have sex for about two weeks, and then we had sex again on Saturday. Shortly after, I started having abdominal cramps, and now it's here: a bladder infection.

Now I'm wondering if my boyfriend cheated on me? So, if the bacteria came from another woman?

This might be useful information: I had to take a lot of cortisone beforehand, which weakens the immune system. I had been to the gym beforehand (I showered only after sex…) and I went to the bathroom in the gym. I disinfected the toilet seat, but could that still be the cause?

Of course, my boyfriend/fiancé denies cheating on me… (I don't have any other evidence for this, but the cystitis is actually enough for that, right?)

Hello Sascha2609,

Bubble inflammation is not an indication of alienation, because the bacteria that cause bladder inflammation can theoretically come everywhere. There are often unwashed hands.

In any case, women already suffer four times as often from bladder infections as men. Their urethra is much shorter, bacteria have a much shorter path to the bladder.

However, sexual intercourse continues to increase the risk. The reason: The human
Skin is sown with bacteria. And during sex, they are transported to body regions, which are particularly badly able to fight. In women, this happens particularly easily, as with them vagina,
Anus and urethra opening are close to each other. And the “mechanical friction” does a rest to transport the germs from the anal region into the urethra.

Before sexual intercourse, both participants may consider some things to prevent bladder infection. The correct care of the intimate area, for example, makes it particularly difficult for bacteria. Therefore, wash best before traffic with running water. Dispense with soap or intimate detergent. These can attack the skin’s acid-protection jacket and even facilitate the attack by bacteria.

In most cases, bladder inflammation is caused by so-called E. coli bacteria – these are mainly in
intestine to find. For this reason, intercourse should not be changed directly from anal to vaginal sex. In addition, two different condoms should be used.

Cuddling is part of it after sex for many couples. Nevertheless, you should quickly check and urinate the toilet immediately after the act. In this way, germs can be flushed out which could otherwise lead to bladder inflammation.

If you want a reliable protection against bladder inflammation after sex, you should resort to condoms. They reliably protect against infection.

Make sure to drink enough – even before and after sex. In this way, you precipitate sufficient urine to prevent the spread of bacteria, and thus bladder inflammation. Recommended are two litres per day for adults.

No way, you can’t get them anywhere else.

Possible causes are e.g.

  • false/ excessive intimate hygiene
  • Disorder of the hormone balance
  • Side effects of contraceptives
  • too little drink
  • Cooling
  • Problems with the kidneys or bladder
  • weakened immune system
  • ………………………………
  • ….
  • ….

It’s a bit far out of here because it can come from a lot. Have a deep conversation with him and talk about everything.
