Can I use the DB for free as a student?
Hello,
I have just received my enrollment at a private university.
I received a student ID card that allows me to use NRW local public transport for free and an extra "certificate" that has Deutsche Bahn on it, my details, and my student ID number.
Now my question is… What is this Deutsche Bahn thing? Can I use it to travel wherever I want for free?
Unfortunately, there is no explanation included.
Thanks in advance:)
Depends on the university.
In some cases there are additional agreements that also allow the use of the railway on certain routes outside the scope of the NRW-Semesterticket.
Only regional traffic "for free" and also only in your country. These include S and subway as well as bus.
Where you want… certainly not…… within NRW, yes.
You should check out at the university for which collection area the free use of the DB is possible.
In fact, as a student in NRW you will receive the semester ticket with which you can drive in the association (Vrr z B) and throughout NRW
But as I said, only in local transport and not in ICE or other distance trains
So distance trains like IC, ICE, Ec do not fall below.
The ticket is valid in the traffic network with which your student work has concluded corresponding agreements, including regional trains from DB.
Look at the side of your university, the scope should be clear. How far it goes is different from university to university.
No, you can't.
in nrw you can drive free with the ticket, but not ICE.
No, unfortunately not.
Can only drive around in the federal state where you study and the "only" with regional transport (bus, tram, subway, S-Bahn, RB, RE) In Saxony/Thuringia, as far as I know, there is still an exception for an IC line but that was then also.
Overlooked NRW
Extra-free trains within NRW.
