How exactly is an aircraft (from small to jumbo) developed and built, and how long does it take? What are the first steps after securing financing?

That's all about it. The development can ideally last 5 years, but also 15, 20 years as with the A380 eg B.
Construction time of an A320 is around a month. Larger aircraft last a little longer than 2 months.
The first step after the fuse is the design phase, where you are thinking about the appearance and even the engines.

Depending on the design, the time required is 1000-5000 hours, sometimes even longer. There are only construction plans and no kits available for many aircraft types. Also the development of the aircraft is possible.
