Soft touch surfaces VW New Beetle interior refurbishment?
Hello,
Has anyone here ever dealt with the refurbishment of soft-touch surfaces in Volkswagens from the 2000s?
I have a New Beetle here that is actually in far better than average condition, but the soft-touch surfaces, especially on the two middle and two front panels of the dashboard, are heavily scratched.
This also applies to the two inner recessed handles of the door openers.
Before I take everything apart and have it painted, I'm asking here if anyone knows of a simpler solution.
Thanks and greetings!
– Parts
-Edit with universal dilution
– to remove paint residues completely
– possibly prime
– spray with black (matt) lacquer
– reinstall
It'll take anything, but if you work thoroughly, you'll get very good results!
Alternatively, the parts at ebay and co seek together, but the quality there fluctuates extremely durable due to the soft lacquer and good parts are quite expensive.
Thank you, but I know how this works with the removal and painting. I hope for a creative method that does not require expansion.
No, there isn't.
Either completely replace or paint, otherwise there is no way to get rid of it.
There are ways to revise this. For this, the soft varnish has to go down, then grind, prime, paint. But it is difficult to achieve a good result for a layman. That's why it's better to buy and exchange the parts. There are many as cheap replicas on eBay and Co.
Thank you, but the solution of painting was already known to me, see my question.
The new parts would be as susceptible and are no longer available anyway. Because of the problematic nature of the coating, the used parts all look like mine.
New parts are not equally susceptible to space. The coating of the soft lacquer softens with the years and only then becomes susceptible.
I've known these boxes for 20 years and the soft lacquer done was always attacked after 2 years at the latest and after 4 years it was unsightly. From Touran to GTI we had these VWs in the family and always the same picture.
I think I'm gonna have to finish this stuff and paint it. Then, however, in the car color "black-metallic" and with several layers of clear lacquer.
What becomes a problem is the radio. Even this is coated with soft lacquer and also quite scratched. For optical reasons, I don't want to build another radio. But you'll have to live with that.
