Car accelerates without accelerating?

Sometimes my car accelerates even when I'm not pressing the accelerator. This usually happens when I'm driving at lower speeds. For example, I can drive long distances (about 30 meters) up a hill in third gear without pressing the accelerator. What could be causing this, and how can I possibly fix it?
