If my child has water in their ear, is medication or surgery more likely to help?
My children are 4 and 7 years old and both have water in their ears. They are given medication. If that doesn't help, they will have to have an operation and that worries me. Was that the case with your children?
It will go away on its own!
No, unfortunately not always. If the eardrum is ruptured, the fluid can no longer drain away, and only medication or minor surgery can help.
I've had it myself and it's really unpleasant!
Do you mean water in the ear from swimming, or a middle ear effusion, meaning fluid behind the eardrum? The latter is critical and should be carefully monitored and treated by an ear doctor. The doctor will also tell you which treatment method is best.
Water that gets into the ear during bathing usually drains away on its own. However, sometimes children have a lot of earwax, which should be cleaned by an ear doctor.
It may also be that the ear canal is narrowed, but the doctor can help with that too.
So if the symptoms don't go away on their own within a day or two, or if pain occurs, you should take your child to an ear doctor. This is no joke: neglected diseases can lead to hearing loss or even hearing impairment!
Water also comes out of the ear on its own. If in doubt, go to an ear doctor who can clean your ears properly.
It's good.
But as I said, what happens when you shower?
Absolutely nothing, water gets into the ear and the ear can definitely handle that.
No, unfortunately not always!
If in doubt, go see an ear doctor; they can clean your ears properly. Somehow, you can only read selectively, right?
What does water mean in the ear? Do you mean an infusion behind the drum? Then the ENT doctor is responsible for initiating a therapy. A small tube is frequently used so that the liquid can flow off.
Or a small cut is made behind the ear and then sucked!
I already did.
That sounds bad I hope these medications help
In most cases, however, the liquid forms and then this would only be a moment effect.
I just hope that the drugs will help without surgery
Half as bad as it sounds!
