Side effects of bisoprolol?
Warning, it will be long.
On October 22nd, I went to my family doctor because I was constantly experiencing a pulling/stabbing pain in the left side of my chest and could sometimes feel my pulse in my throat. (I had this 8/24 before, was adjusted, and treated with paracetamol/codeine. It was probably caused by the thoracic spine and stress, intercostal neuralgia.)
The GP listened to my chest and said it was supraventricular paroxymal tachycardia and prescribed me 1 tablet of bisoprolol 5mg in the morning. (He didn't take an ECG.) A long-term ECG was ordered, but couldn't be done until three weeks later.
I took the tablets for a week and then experienced the following symptoms: tiredness, listlessness, dizziness, ringing in the ears, diarrhea, headaches, sweating, bad mood, lump in my throat, weight loss, like I was "drunk."
After the second week, I went back, and he reduced the tablet to 2.5 mg daily. The next day was great; I had energy and motivation. However, that went away again; everything was awful again, and my symptoms were the same as before. My blood pressure at rest is usually around 110 systolic, but my diastolic value is comparatively high, for example, 110/88 or 115/95.
The heart rate at rest is between 70 and 90. It rises quickly during exertion, but also falls relatively quickly again.
A 24-hour ECG was performed in the meantime; the average resting heart rate was 86 beats, the highest heart rate was 132 (a cat jumped at our feet while we were walking; it was dark), and the lowest was 58 (at night). Sinus tachycardia occurred 6 times, total V beats: 1, total S beats: 5. (Can anyone tell me what that means, "severe?") The doctor said everything was within normal limits!
Panicking due to high blood pressure, I went to the emergency room, where I had an ECG and troponin tests, all of which were normal. Blood pressure was 164/110, pulse 98, cortisol r+r, ECG: SR, IT, no acute ERBS, RS transition to V3/V4 (what does all this mean?). Blood work, including TSH, was all within the normal range. I was then suddenly diagnosed with arterial hypertension.
The chest pain comes and goes, the orthopedist diagnosed intercostal neuralgia, and I'm receiving manual therapy.
Yesterday at the cardiologist's (I got an appointment so quickly by chance, someone would have canceled) it was a tragedy. The ECG and ultrasound were normal, and as quickly as I was processed, my head is still full of questions… so impossible, I didn't even have a chance to ask my questions, including about changing medication because of the side effects. He said it's all psychological. I don't want to deny it; some things are certain. But I don't believe I'm feeling the way I am now. I'm already on the psychologist's waiting list (because of the anxiety I've developed). Autogenic training is planned, and I'm doing relaxation exercises.
I've lost 5 kg in four weeks, which isn't usually that quick for me… I'm having trouble sleeping through the night. For the past two weeks, I've been lying awake every night from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m., ruminating, and I can't seem to figure it out. My cardiologist says I should take something herbal to help me sleep. Listening to relaxation exercises doesn't really help. It's really stressing me out.
The questions remain unanswered by the cardiologist;
According to my measurements, the values are higher in the evening than in the morning directly after walking the dog, e.g. 140/95 in the evening and only 110/80 after walking the dog… why?
These side effects, does changing the medication make sense?
Why is the diastolic value so high in comparison? (His answer was simply that when he measured it, the value was within the normal range, i.e., 110/80. He said that if necessary, I can take an additional 2.5 mg of Biso if I feel better… I find that questionable.
Regarding weight loss, he said, I should be happy that something is happening, it can't do any harm.
Pulse increases with minimal exertion, e.g. when brushing teeth to 105 beats
How may RR/pulse change, for example during physical/emotional stress
How should I behave if a high RR/pulse becomes uncomfortable, for example at work.
Is magnesium good for the heart? Which one?
What symptoms can occur when switching tablets? How do I taper off Biso?
You see, there were a lot of questions I couldn't ask because he didn't give me a chance and left so quickly, being so short-tempered. I have another appointment with my family doctor on Monday, and I'm worried about my heart and my health.
Thank you in advance!
Let this be measured with the frequent one.
That’s what makes you crazy.
And tell your doc you have so many questions.
That’s so easy to let you be… I’ve been able to deal with the doctor today. But he also took blood and tomorrow I get a 24h RR measurement.
