5- or 6-string banjo?

Hey,

I'm thinking about getting a banjo. I've been playing fingerstyle guitar for almost a year now, and I have a few questions. I wanted to get a banjo because I love the sound. Let's say I want to learn a popular song like "Drivers License." There are guitar tabs available, but no banjo tabs. That means I'd probably have to make my own tabs if I choose the 5-string banjo. But if I were to buy the 6-string banjo, things would be different again. However, I've read that a 6-string banjo isn't very good. What would be the solution to this?

Thanks for all the answers 🙂

Hi.

6saiy banjos are not good, lazy compromise.

There is no real solution. Besides learning the basics on Banjo. DAS instrument is quite different from the guitar.

Banjos also have a much shorter sustain and so you often play more notes and more broken chords. Strumming almost doesn’t exist and sounds pretty bad. Simple picking patterns are also rarer.

A banjo to play a song that contains none in the original is always an arrangement. This requires the instrument to play a little advanced. But there’s no way to go, it’s not 6saiter.
