4 port USB 2.0 HUB passive?
Is a "4-port passive USB 2.0 hub" also suitable for a smart TV? My LG smart TV only has one USB port, and I don't want to keep unplugging the hard drive every time I want to connect my phone, for example.
And I have another question (so I don't have to create two). My TV doesn't have a headphone jack (yes, you read that right). Is it still possible to listen to music via headphones or Bluetooth headphones, for example, with an extra adapter or something similar? I would be extremely grateful for any answer. I've tried a few things, but nothing has ever been compatible or suitable.
“Passive” means only that there is no power supply. The rest is completely identical!
The problem with “not PC” devices is that the current that the USB socket can supply is greatly limited. See if on the socket or in the instructions (Technical data) there is how much power the socket can supply.
Often they have only 500mA or less what is just enough for a USB memory stick, but not for hard drives.
Then you need an active hub so that the power consumption is operated by the HUB and nothing is pulled out of the TV.
The next problem, however, is whether the TV can detect and use a hub at all. Systems that do not run internally via Linux, Windows or Android have no drivers for a USB hub. Then you don’t have a chance to put a single device in there.
And the devices must work “directly” on the socket. Devices that do not work on this jack in this way because the TV cannot handle it or has no drivers for it, they cannot run at a stroke.
If you want to upgrade “strength” with features, you could add a Raspberry Pi (o.a.) with Libreelec. It can then play all media from any source (network, stick, HDD, SSD) and can also play audio via Bluetooth or almost any audio adapter.
By the way, it would be good to know what this is for a TV, so brand and model.
and how you use it, so sat/cable/terrestrial.
If you have an optical output for a soundbar, you can use a converter on stereo/headphones.
If you are using HDMI from an external device (DVD player, sat receiver), you can tap the audio from the HDMI with an adapter/converter.
Thanks for the answers, it’s an LG Smart TV model No: 49LK590OPLA.BEUWLJP
I honestly didn’t know that there are actually devices that don’t have a clink connection. I would like to be able to watch TV with headphones without disturbing someone for the sake of volume.
And for the purpose of USB connection, I have currently connected a 250GB hard drive to record and play movies with it and this works without any problems, it’s just annoying me (in contrast to my previous TV) that there’s only one USB connection and I have to put the hard drive out and inside every time I want to connect something else to the TV…no idea if the constant inside and out is so good at all.
Could I have an adapter with the 2x Chinch and 1x clink input, not also connect headphones?
Yeah, you can. But how good this sounds depends on what impedance the headphones and this output have.
What’s the matter with you?
The TV has an optical output. A jack doesn’t make any sense. Because every headphone is different and has to be controlled differently. In addition, you prefer to use radio headphones nowadays and they need a line-out. Either way, you don’t get a good sound quality!
Unfortunately I cannot find out if the Bluetooth has

If so, just use a Bluetooth headphone or earbuds.
A simple converter would be here:
https://www.amazon.de/PROZOR-magnetic power cable audio-cable Lautst%C3%A4rkecontrol-192kHz converter/dp/B08DY1PMPR/
It converts the optical digital into analog signals for headphones. As a power supply, the USB socket of a TV is usually used, but you can use any USB power supply (old from the phone) or maybe you have another device near which has a free USB socket for power.
You can also create an adapter on Bluetooth. Unfortunately, there is the thing I don’t use anymore, this seems to be his successor:
https://www.amazon.de/OMNITRONIC-BDT-5-2PRO-Aptx Bluetooth Transceiver/dp/B0DK3BTM54
This can be optimized for Bluetooth – and vice versa. You can then log two Bluetooth headphones/Earbuds on and control them independently via their own volume buttons.
You can also upgrade your favorite headphone with BT:
https://www.amazon.de/UGREEN-Bluetooth-Empf%C3%A4nger-Freisprechanruf-Stereoanlage/dp/B0B4JTKF6T
You don’t have annoying cable to the TV anymore.
