1.6 TDI?

Hello,

I recently bought a 2019 Audi A3 with a 1.6L TDI (116hp). How reliable is this engine, and what's the best way to warm it up?

And how long will it last if you mostly ride short distances (15km)? (I know, that's hard to say, but how long will it run at least, and how long do others run for part of the time?)

What tends to break in such an engine and how do you best maintain it?

Thanks in advance!

I am not a fan of VW engines now, but the 1.6 TDI as far as I know are robust. Short distances are not ideal for diesel engines, but also not as problematic as some are. My diesel has only been driven short distance for 9 years by the previous owner, before that as a rental car 2 years rather long distance. I drove it back slowly and drove about 140000 km to date (total 213000 km) without any problems. If the engine is cold then do not let more than 2000 rpm turn until it is warm. Mine needs between 15 and 19 km until the cooling water temperature is reached. If you don’t overload the engine, you’ll enjoy it for a long time.

The 1.6 TDI are okay, sometimes have problems with the injectors.

The problem is if wg. The soot filter regeneration is repeatedly interrupted, which leads to oil dilution with fuel and thus to reduced lubrication capacity of the engine oil.

For short distance therefore, in any case annual oil change, no longlife exchange intervals.!

Also the 1.6 Lite long hold the 2 liter motors would keep longer, you have to keep it nicely warm then keep it long and I don’t mean the cooling water temperature?
