14-day West Coast road trip?

Hi, we're flying to the west coast in July and I'd like to ask the experts here how they would combine the destinations to make it a breathtaking road trip.

Definitely a must:

  • At least 7 days in Los Angeles with surrounding towns and activities (Malibu, Venice, Laguna Beach, Manhattan Beach, Santa Monica, Warner Bros, baseball game, outlet malls, etc.)
  • 1-2 days in Las Vegas
  • Joshua Tree NP, Sequoia National Park, Grand Canyon, Route 66, Bryce Canyon

Possibly to insert:

  • Palm Springs
  • San Francisco
  • Mojave Desert, Cowboy Towns, etc.

I don't want to spend too long somewhere in the desert, as I expect it will be very hot. I also find changing apartments every day a hassle. I think Palm Springs would be cool for a day or two of relaxing and maybe swimming.

I've never been there, but LA is definitely my #1 travel destination, along with the neighboring cities. I already have a few things planned there. I don't know if I could possibly add San Francisco, or if that would be too stressful.

I'm looking forward to a plan / recommendations 🙂

San Francisco’s a whole corner. I mean, the other route has little to do with it and you have to plan a few days extra, just to make a “detour” there. In 14 days, however, this becomes more than scarce if it is not to be completely hectic. I’d guess. In my opinion, the rest will be scarce if you want to spend 7 days in LA. Even if you don’t want to do what you want for 7 days in a shithole like LA, you have to do the experience yourself.

Departure and return flight from LA should be clear. The Mojave Desert can be built well on the way to Las Vegas. From Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon is easily accessible, also as organized day tours, including the helicopter. Route 66 depends heavily on what you want to see. A sign of Route 66 is also available at Santa Monica Pier. On the way back from Las Vegas, you can look at a big Schlenker Sequoia, where I am also in the area at least: a night would recommend because otherwise too stressful. Back in LA, Joshua Tree is a daytrip.

You should be aware that the USA is one of the most expensive destinations in the world, especially the west coast.

Gasoline is still cheap but the rest is almost priceless. Especially the things tourists like to make are inconceivably expensive like restaurants, going out, admission fees etc. and even something like sunscreen you spend over 12 dollars.

Los Angeles is overvalued, there is a clear Santa Monica beach with the pier and Hollywood and the amusement parks.

I would definitely take San Francisco, a one can also comfortably fly within 1 hour and car rental in SF is really a block on the leg, just like in Las Vegas. In SF there is really crazy much to see and is really worth it. And if you really want to see what you can even drive with the railroad from SF to LA, the amtrack trains are super comfortable and the view is better than any road trip. For navigation LA union Station to Oakland Jack London.

You should ask yourself if you really want to go around 1 week in any national parks. This was perhaps still generation “Easy Rider” only generation Tiktok likes manyout quite different things and not everything is in the presentation as you introduced it sicih.

I don’t understand the question.

I started and landed in LA. Fork flights are extremely expensive and there I am directly from the landing in the USA to SF. The flight really only goes one hour and is already available for 50 Dolllar.

and then from SF very cozy with Amtrack to LA, was a beautiful experience and the Superliners are very comfortable and the views from the windows really stunning.

in SF and Las Vegas you really don’t need a rental car. The United States is considered to be “auto-friendly” only with parking fees shimmering the legs and is towed faster than you can watch.

Personally, I can’t start much with L.A., so I would plan much less time for it. To take S. F. away.

Do not underestimate the journey times to the different national parks.
For example: From L.A. to Grand Canyon you are 8h on the go.

Check out a few points that are important to you, and then look on the map to see what you might plan on the route.

Instead of the Mojave Desert, I’d rather plan the Death Valley.

My proposal:

  1. LA
  2. LA
  3. LA
  4. LA
  5. LA
  6. LA (Day excursion Sequoia)
  7. LA
  8. Palm Springs
  9. Twentynine Palms (Joshua Tree) traveling to Grand Canyon Kingman Route 66
  10. Grand Canyon Village
  11. Page (located on the way to the Bryce Canyon and is almost a must with Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon)
  12. Bryce Canyon
  13. Las Vegas
  14. Las Vegas

It would be too much stress and ride, but everyone likes it. You also have to leave a lot of nice in the area, such as San Diego, Highway 1, San Francisco, Death Valley, Zion, Valley of fire, Monument Valley, Yosemite…

Hey, a road trip on the west coast? Mega idea! Pack your seventies, and let’s go with my plan for you:

Los Angeles and surroundings (7 days)

  • Date 1-3: Check out Hollywood, walk over the Walk of Fame, look behind the scenes at Warner Bros. Studios and get a baseball game.
  • Day 4: From Malibu and Santa Monica – perfect for sun and shopping.
  • Day 5: Venice Beach and Manhattan Beach are waiting for you with cool Local Vibes and chilling beach moments.
  • Day 6: Laguna Beach and the outlet malls nearby – bargain hunting is recommended!
  • Day 7: Relax and enjoy the area.

Las Vegas (1-2 days)

  • Day 8To Las Vegas! Let the light show flash you in the evening and dive into the Nightlife.
  • Day 9: Zocken in the casinos or off to a show in the evening – you have the choice!

National Parks and Route 66 (5 days)

  • Day 10: From to the Joshua Tree National Park.
  • Day 11: Cruise along Route 66, with stops in small cities.
  • Day 12: Amazing at the Grand Canyon National Park.
  • Day 13: Bryce Canyon National Park – pure nature!
  • Day 14: And to the crowning conclusion of the Sequoia National Park.

Have fun and let it crash! 🚗💨

Unconditionally plan the Bryce Canyon, which is beautiful

I personally didn’t find LA so beautiful, but San Francisco.

Why do they have to be apartments and not motels?

Please also inform you exactly how the driving times are. You’re on your way over 5h, even if you think it’s right next to each other.

I’d definitely increase San Francisco, but you have to schedule more time. I can only recommend the Alcatraz.

Then I recommend motels, you’re unbound. Can wash your laundry yourself and is cheaper.

Right. You just go to the reception and ask for a room. Passion must be shown and then is good.

we are then from san fran the highway 1 to la, from there via joshua tree, route 66, grand canyon, antilope canyon, monument valley, las vegas, yosemite national park back to san francisco.

in 3 weeks, they have managed and could have stayed longer. especially in vegas were almost 2 days too little.

so… in 2 weeks? is too little time.

Time scheduling is not exactly sensible: 7 days for LA and 5 days for Joshua Tree NP, Sequoia National Park, Grand Canyon, Route 66, Bryce Canyon??

Forget it.
