1 sabbatical year, what to do?
A friend of mine drew my attention to this site.
I'm taking a year off from everything and just want to enjoy myself for a year. I've been working really hard and now I'm treating myself to a long break. What would you suggest? I'm currently gathering ideas because I'll be doing it exactly on November 1, 2023, or November 1, 2024, and I wanted to start gathering ideas early.
For those who've done this before: How was it? Did you regret it?
Fine. You worked hard. Others do.
What do you understand under a Sabbath year?
Do you want to “reward” because you were so diligent and are looking for the right beach to lazy? Or what your idea of a Sabbath year?
That really makes sense not your question.
If you want to do something different for a year, you can work as a volunteer or wwoofen or work&travel. Or what is your idea of a year to make time and something else? Explain more.
These do few (being diligent), most go after a 9to5 job. It’s almost 24/7 with me.
Yeah, I put it a little bad. I wanted to know, like I said, “What would you do in a Sabate Year?”
I change my activity anyway and have already done work & travel for a time. Especially when I was 18-25. There I was a lot in Romania and Bulgaria, but I also had something to do with my work.
Since I’ve been having “Gehustlet” for years now, I want to get a taste of life as a private man.
How old are you?
In Romania and Bulgaria there is no work&travel. Maybe there are volunteer jobs. But that is what I know.
It’s true that you’ve badly formulated your question. At any rate, you can’t find out what you can do if that’s possible at all.
You alone are able to decide what interests you and what you want to do. What I’d do doesn’t matter and doesn’t help you.
If you can do it after all the work, then make a year of travel from it. You can take off as a backpacker. Where you start, it’s about which countries you are interested.
You can also drive from Alaska to Feuerland by car. This has been a motorsport journalist (Fritz B. Busch), many years ago. Get his book and follow the route according to his travel description. That would be something interesting. Anyway, it would be for me because you already ask me so directly.
Well, I never profited from it when I work for someone. I was more exhausted than usual, but the money was not available.
No, I’m not doing anything about it, or I’m just buying. Money governs the world.
Look at everything!
You are already very negative and very suspicious. Hopefully, you don’t get so much fun. Good for you.
Yeah, that sounds good to return something to nature.
As long as there’s no money, it’s okay for me.
Thank you. Look at the link once.
A beautiful one!
Volunteer jobs are usually voluntary. : And there are many instituions that really need help. I am thinking, for example, of the collecting stations for Koala, which have been damaged during the last great fire, or the institutions that take care of the Tasmanian devils affected by this incurable disease. Or the institutions that take care of the Great Barrier Reef and the endangered wildlife there. There’s hardly a golden nose. Because there are many volunteers who make this out of personal conviction. You could get to know a new country and do something good for nature. That would be another world you could get to know.
Maybe this gives you an inspiration: https://www.volunteerworld.com/en/volunteer-abroad/australia The many private volunteer activities are not yet listed. You’ll probably find them right on site.
But it would be a completely different direction you could take. the work&travel visa is valid for one year and is issued once. So you could do different activities. A lot of things would come out for you sooner. I find this exciting and a real challenge.
But it’s your life and your decision what appeals to you. And most of the time it’s all the different than you think. So good for you.
No, I had to have a visa. I have lived there for 6 months or a little longer.
Yeah, a little adventurous to start would certainly be good. The last 2 months in the penner mode make it sound:D see.
Thank you for the inspiration.
Yes, I keep restarting because if something gets too boring (activity) I change it and learn something new. When I was in Bulgaria and Romania, I opened a cam page. That’s why I think the confusion about work&travel. I have chosen these two countries, because you pay less taxes, but that is so everywhere in the opposite direction to Germany and among other things because women work for less money. The classic ass captain just:D
But if you ask for my current direction… I don’t know. I have set up many snack machines or snacks and drinks machines and trade on the stock exchange, but that doesn’t make me fun anymore for a long time, so I’m looking for a way to automate it. So far, almost everything worked. Restart is therefore always possible
So Volunteer jobs are nothing for me if, then volunteer but I don’t want to work for someone who deserves a golden nose. I know that about me, as an employer, you’re exploiting your employees. It’s always like that.
Anyway, thanks for the inspiration, you have a nice weekend!
You have already translated work&travel correctly. The matching countries and offers can be found here: https://www.working-holiday-visum.de/work-and-travel/
I am not sure if you need a visa for Romania and Bulgaria. But with the classic work&travel, that certainly has nothing to do with. I think the term is in different directions.
As far as this tour is concerned, I recommend reading the book by Fritz B. Busch. You just have to transfer it to today. And you can find crime not only in Mexico.
And under the term “From Alaska to Fireland” you can find on the Internet several ways to accomplish this, from bicycle to rebuilt truck. Your search if you really care.
The question you have to ask is what I want to do, what I care. I want to lie somewhere on the beach or I want to experience and do something.
A friend of mine has been trampled through South America as a backpacker, but with her then friend. Also a possibility. However, she could speak Spanish, which is advantageous in the case.
You can find many offers with the search term “adventure travel worldwide”. Maybe something inspires you.
Think about what country you’d be interested in. Then you can inform yourself about it and maybe develop such an idea.
It’s hard to convey or recommend if you don’t know any backgrounds. With 27 years you are ready to start a new start. What’s your direction right now?
I also find the work as a volunteer in South Africa interesting at a wildlife project. There are reports about it on TV and certainly on YouTube. https://www.volunteerworld.com/en/volunteer-abroad/tiere-suedafrika
If I think about what I would have liked to do with 27 years, my favorite countries fall in. These are Australia and New Zealand. You can also work there as a volunteer. https://www.australia.com/de-de/youth-travel/work-and-volunteer-in-australia/best-places-to-volunteer-in-australia.html Since you need the work&travel visa anyway, then all the other ways to do a job are open or you just travel through the country. You can find information here: https://www.working-holiday-visum.de/working-holiday-visum-Australia/
You may see, it’s just what he/she wants to do and what appeals. I hope for you that you will find something that is fun and may give you new impulses about your future. Because I think it’s what you’re looking for. Good luck.
I’m 27.
Okay, I don’t know what you understand under Work&Travel. Maybe I misinterpreted the term. I thought of the direct translation “working and traveling” But why not do that in Romania and Bulgaria? But then what is work&travel for you? I’m interested in burning 😀
Sure, what you’d do in my situation gives me inspiration, that’s what I’m looking for.
Yeah, so money’s not a problem. Everything should be open to possibilities.
Wow, that’s heavy from Alaska to fireland. I just saw where this is. That’s interesting anyway!
Thanks for the inspiration. This is certainly cool to drive through all American and Canadian cities. But does it certainly have a risk, especially when you drive through Mexico, that you have a lot to do with criminality, right? It is best to buy a car that meets the purpose.
